Privacy policy

Last updated 16 October 2026

This policy covers the website subtitld.org. The Subtitld app runs on your own computer, and the subtitld.cc community hub has its own policy.

subtitld.org is run by Jonatã Bolzan Loss, who makes Subtitld. For anything about your privacy, write to [email protected].

In short

  • No account and no sign-up.
  • Google Analytics counts visits, to show us which pages are read. In the European Union, the EEA, the UK and Switzerland it stores nothing until you agree.
  • The server keeps a log of requests for seven days, then deletes it.
  • The site itself sets no cookies.

What the server records

Like every web server, ours writes a line for each request: your IP address, the date and time, the page or file asked for, the response, the address of the page you came from, and what your browser says it is (its user agent). We use these logs only to keep the site running and secure: to find errors, and to spot and block abuse.

The logs are deleted after seven days. We don't combine them with anything else, and we don't share them, except where the law requires it.

Visit statistics

We use Google Analytics to learn how the site is used: which pages are visited, how people arrive (from a search, another site or a link), and roughly where they are and what device they use. Google Analytics sets cookies (_ga and _ga_…, kept for up to two years) to tell one visit from another, and sends the data to Google, which processes it under Google's privacy policy. Google Analytics doesn't store IP addresses, and we see only totals, never who you are.

In the European Union, the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, no Analytics cookies are set until you agree to them; without them, Google receives only cookieless signals with no identifier.

You can turn this off at any time: block cookies for subtitld.org, use your browser's tracking protection, or install Google's opt-out add-on.

Cookies

The site itself sets no cookies. The only ones are Google Analytics', above, and YouTube's if you play the video on the home page. There are no advertising cookies.

Services between you and the site

Cloudflare. Visits to subtitld.org pass through Cloudflare, which delivers the site and protects it from attacks. It handles your IP address and request to do that, under Cloudflare's privacy policy. Cloudflare also hides the email address on our pages from spam robots, with a small script that shows it to you.

Hosting. The site runs on a rented server, which stores the logs above.

Google. Every page loads the Google Analytics script from Google's servers, which receive your IP address to deliver it.

YouTube. The video at the top of the home page can be watched on YouTube's player. Nothing is loaded from YouTube until you rest the mouse pointer on that video or press Watch the video. The player then comes from youtube-nocookie.com, YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode, in which YouTube doesn't store information about you unless you play the video. Once it plays, YouTube handles it under Google's privacy policy.

Everything else (fonts, images, the other videos and the site's own scripts) comes from subtitld.org itself.

Links to other sites

Download, donation and community links take you to other sites, such as GitHub, Flathub, the Snap Store, the Microsoft Store, the AUR, Liberapay, GitHub Sponsors, Discord and Reddit. What they collect is covered by their own policies. If you donate, the payment is handled entirely by the donation service; we don't see your payment details.

Email

If you write to us, we keep your message and address to answer you, and for as long as the conversation is useful. We don't add you to any mailing list.

Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR in the European Union, the UK GDPR, Brazil's LGPD or California's CCPA), you can ask what personal data we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, object to how we use it, or ask for a copy. Write to [email protected]; we answer within a month, at no charge. You can also complain to your data protection authority.

We don't sell personal data, and we share it only with the services named here, for the purposes described.

Children

The site doesn't knowingly collect personal data from children, and nothing here asks for any.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be on this page with a new date at the top.
